My Unusual Valentine's Day

I can pretty much guarantee that my Valentine's Day was not what you would expect. Did I spend a lot of quality time with my husband? No, not really. Thursdays are my least favorite days of the week because he leaves at 6:30 AM & gets home around 9-9:30 PM after class. When we try to be in bed no later than 10, it makes for not a lot of quality time. But don't worry, Friday nights are date nights :)

Even though we didn't spend a lot of time together, Matt still went out of his way and surprised me with some chocolate & a bottle of wine, but not for the holiday. Instead, it was in celebration of my thesis defense!

source; dude- these are amazing. Go buy some and enjoy :)
Yup, I defended my master's thesis yesterday and I passed! I wasn't really worried about it until a couple of hours before & that's when I started getting nervous, but it went well and I got some good feedback. All I have to do is make a few "minor" (haha) edits and then submit it to the thesis office! Yay!

So that is the current update on my life. Short, sweet, and to the point. Much unlike my thesis, all 76 pages of it.

I hope you had a great Valentine's Day and will have a great weekend!

Weekend Recap

This may be shocking, but we actually did things this weekend more than just study! I know, it's crazy, but as may have read in my last post, Matt & I traveled to College Station this weekend to celebrate our 5-year date-a-versary. We did a lot of eating and campus touring like I imagined and it was absolutely amazing. It was fun & relaxing and so great just to get away for a day.

When we drove in Friday, we were surprised to see so much construction...
Large apartment complex being built across from campus... totally changes the skyline!
New dorms on campus...
We ate dinner at Christopher's and it was delicious as expected! When we arrived, we were surprised to see this sign:
Texas A&M President Dr. Bowen was there as well. Unfortunately we didn't see anyone 'famous,' but it was still cool!
Had to take pictures of the food...

"Heaven and Hell" cake- layers of vanilla pound cake, devils food cake,
and peanut butter. Jessica's dream dessert right there...
The next day, we headed to the campus of A&M to walk around. Since it was fairly early on a Saturday morning (about 9 AM) it was deserted which made for some awesome pictures.
Inside the new Memorial Student Center
Academic Building
More new construction...
Before lunch, we ended our campus walking tour at 'our' bench, the place where Matt proposed.

Self-portraits for the win.
As I said, it was great to get away for 24 hours and go back to a place with so many great memories! Now back to the grad school grind...

5 years!

Well, today isn't the exact dating anniversary, that's February 7, but today Matt & I are heading down to College Station to celebrate our 5 years of being together! I am so excited to have a quick, 24-hour getaway with no school and it will be great to be back in a place with so many amazing memories.

Thanks to a great Groupon, we were able to snag a good deal on a hotel room for the night, so our other plans include:

Eating dinner at Christopher's-- so good!

Walking around campus and reliving our college years that are so long past (ha, just kidding!)

And eating breakfast & lunch at places yet to be determined.

So eating at some delicious restaurants that we don't have in DFW and walking around one of our favorite places in the world. Yup... sounds perfect to me!

Hope you have a good weekend!
